He earned BSc and MSc degrees from Zhejiang Agricultural University in 1993 and 1996, respectively. During 1996-1999, he was a faculty member of Biological and Environmental College at Zhejiang University of Technology. In 2002, he received a PhD degree in soil science from the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Afterwards, he worked at Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2002-2004), National Institute of Agro-environmental Sciences in Japan (JSPS fellowship; 2004-2006), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel (2006-2008), and Ghent University in Belgium (2008-2010), as postdoctoral researcher. In 2010, he joined the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a professor in soil science. His current research interests lie in pollution and restoration ecology, focusing on the behavior and ecological effects and pollution control of various contaminants in environmental media. He was/is the PI of 5 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 project funded by the National Key Research and Development Program of China, and 2 projects funded by the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation.
